The Role of Gaming in Education

Higher education is taking a serious look at electronic educational games. Professors at PSU are beginning to publish research based around educational games, and are looking to incorporate games into the classroom. In response to this growing need, the Educational Gaming Commons (EGC) at Penn State was formed. In this discussion, Brett Bixler, head of the EGC, will outline what makes a game a game, showcase the various types of current electronic games, list some of the major initiatives happening in higher ed, and explain the goals and plans of the EGC.
